How to add an offset to an SVG

  1. Drop your SVG into the box, or send it from another Vectacle tool.
  2. Set the design width so the offset is measured in real inches or mm.
  3. Choose the offset width, corners and colour.
  4. Pick the result: design + offset, the offset only, or the welded design alone.
  5. Download the SVG and upload it to your cutting software.

An offset path for Cricut and Silhouette

Design Space and Silhouette Studio both have offset features, but this tool works before you get there: it handles a whole file at once, welds it first and gives you a single clean shape to bring in. Because every overlap is merged before the offset is made, you get one smooth outline with no stray lines inside, and shapes that are close together join up on their own.

Starting from a picture? Turn it into an SVG with the image converter, then bring it here. For lettering, use Text to SVG and pass the result straight on.

What crafters use it for

Sticker borders

Add a white margin around your art, so a Print then Cut sticker has a clean edge all the way round.

Layered vinyl

Cut the offset in a second colour and place the design on top for a bold layered look.

Paper layers and shaker cards

Stack offsets at different widths to build depth in cards and shadow boxes.

Weld a messy file

Many downloaded designs are full of overlapping pieces. Weld them to cut one clean outline.

Questions

What is an offset in cutting software?

An offset is a new outline that sits an even distance outside your design. Crafters use it for sticker borders, for layered vinyl and paper designs, and for shadow layers behind lettering.

How do I offset an SVG for Cricut?

Drop your SVG here, set the design width, then the offset width. Download the SVG and upload it to Design Space. For a sticker, the offset shape becomes your cut line. For layers, cut it from a second colour.

What does weld do?

Welding joins overlapping shapes into one outline and removes the lines inside. Choose Weld only to get that shape on its own, so your machine cuts the outer edge instead of every overlap.

How wide should a sticker border be?

A common choice is 1/8 inch (about 3 mm). That gives a Print then Cut job room for small shifts between the printed image and the blade. Thin borders of 1/16 inch can show white unevenly.

What happens to holes in my design?

With Fill holes on, the offset is one solid shape, which is what you want behind a sticker or a layered design. Turn it off to keep the holes, for letters such as O and A in a layered look. Holes get smaller as the offset gets wider.

What does offset only download?

Only the outline shape, as one path in one colour. Use it when you want to cut the backing layer separately. Design + offset keeps your artwork on top, and Weld only gives the merged design with no offset.

Why did my SVG lose its text?

Live text has no outline to offset. Convert it to shapes first in your design app, or make it with our Text to SVG tool.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Your SVG is processed in your browser and stays on your device.
