QR code to SVG, clean enough to cut
Make a QR code as true vector shapes, with neighbouring dots merged, ready for vinyl, stickers and print. It never expires and nothing leaves your browser.
How to make a QR code SVG
- Pick the type: link, text, Wi-Fi, email or phone.
- Fill in the details. The code appears as you type.
- Choose the look: square or rounded dots, colour and background.
- Set your cut width so Vectacle can check the dots are big enough.
- Download the SVG or PNG, and scan it with your phone before you cut.
Why merged shapes matter for vinyl
Most QR code generators draw one small square for every dot. On screen that looks fine, but a cutting machine then traces every square, including the sides between two touching dots, and your code falls to bits when you weed it. Vectacle traces the outline of each connected area instead, so the dots join into whole shapes and the blade only follows the true edges.
Rounded dots go further: corners are softened, so there are no sharp points to lift. The SVG also stays sharp at any size, from a business card to a shop window. To add a border around the finished code, send it to the SVG offset tool.
Good places for a QR code
Craft stalls and shops
A vinyl code on a sign or a table stand can take buyers to your Etsy page, price list or payment link.
Wi-Fi for guests
A framed code or a sticker lets visitors join your network with one scan, no typing.
Packaging and cards
Print it on thank-you cards or labels to link to care instructions or a review page.
Weddings and events
Point guests to the schedule, the photo album or a map, on signs that match your colours.

Questions
How do I make a QR code as an SVG?
Choose what it should hold (a link, text, Wi-Fi, email or phone number), fill in the details and click Download SVG. The code is drawn as you type.
Do these QR codes expire?
No. The information is stored in the pattern itself, with no redirect in between, and nothing can switch off. A link code works for as long as the website does. It also can't be changed later: to point somewhere else, make a new code.
Can I cut a QR code in vinyl?
Yes. Neighbouring dots are merged into whole shapes, so your machine traces each area once rather than cutting hundreds of little squares. Set the width you plan to cut and Vectacle warns you when the dots get too small.
How small can a vinyl QR code be?
It depends on how much is in the code, since more content means more, smaller dots. As a guide, dots of 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) or more are comfortable to weed, and below 1/32 inch (0.8 mm) they are hard to cut at all. Short links help a lot.
Which error correction should I choose?
Medium suits most uses. Choose Q or H if the code will get scratched or sit on a curved cup. Higher levels add more dots, so the code needs to be larger. L makes the fewest dots, which helps with small vinyl codes.
Does the Wi-Fi code share my password?
The password goes into the QR code, so anyone who can see the code can join your network. It isn't sent to Vectacle: the code is made in your browser.
Can I use any colour?
Yes, as long as the code stays dark on a light background with strong contrast. Vectacle warns you when the colours are too close or the code is light on dark, which some scanners can't read.
Why is there space around the code?
Scanners need an empty margin, called the quiet zone. The SVG includes a margin of four dots. On a busy surface, leave that area clear or add a background.
