JPG to SVG, minus the JPEG noise

JPGs come with blur, fuzzy halos and a solid background. Vectacle looks past them and draws clean shapes, with the background removed if you want.

How to convert a JPG to SVG

  1. Drop your JPG or JPEG into the box above, or paste it from the clipboard.
  2. Keep Remove background on if you want only the design. Switch it off to keep the background as a shape.
  3. Choose a type if Auto isn't quite right: Logo / 1 colour, Clip art / stickers or Line art.
  4. Zoom in on the edges and small details to check them against the original.
  5. Download the SVG, or a sharp PNG or PDF.

Why JPG files need extra care

A JPG saves space by blurring fine detail into small blocks. You rarely notice it in a photo, but around a logo’s edges it leaves grey fringes, speckles and colours that drift. Trace that directly and you get rough outlines and lots of stray shapes.

Vectacle first rebuilds sharp edges with a small AI model, then groups near-identical colours, so a red that JPEG turned into twenty shades of red comes back as one clean red. Straight lines, arcs and corners are fitted as real geometry.

Tip: if you also have the design as a PNG, use that. The less compressed the original, the closer the SVG.

Questions

Why do JPGs look messy when traced?

JPEG compression adds faint blocks and halos around edges. Many tracers turn that noise into thousands of tiny shapes. Vectacle sharpens the edges first and merges colours that only differ because of compression.

Can I get a transparent background from a JPG?

Yes. JPGs can't be transparent, so they always have a background. Switch on Remove background and Vectacle leaves it out of the SVG when it finds a plain background around the edges.

Can I convert a photo JPG to SVG?

You can, but a photo becomes many flat colour patches rather than a clean vector. Vectacle is made for logos, lettering, stickers and clip art.

Is my JPG stored?

No. It’s converted and then forgotten; Vectacle keeps no copy.

Is it free?

Yes, free while Vectacle is new, with no account needed.
