Open the SVG in a converter or design app and export it as PNG at the size you need: about 2,000 px for screens, or the print width in inches × 300 for print. Keep PNG (not JPG) and no background colour if you want transparency.
SVG files are perfect for logos and cut files, but many places want a PNG: Etsy listings, mockup tools, slides, print shops and Print then Cut. The good news is that an SVG can be turned into a PNG at any size without losing sharpness, because it’s drawn from shapes rather than pixels. Here are four ways to do it, from quickest to most hands-on.
Method 1: in your browser (quickest)
- Open Vectacle’s SVG to PNG converter and drop in one or more SVG files (or paste SVG code).
- Choose the size: 1×, 2× or 4× the SVG’s own size, an exact width in pixels, or a print size in inches at 150, 300 or 600 DPI.
- Choose the background: Transparent, White, or any colour.
- Click Download, or Download all to get a ZIP.
The conversion runs on your own computer, so private logos and client files aren’t uploaded anywhere.
Method 2: Inkscape (free desktop app)
- Open the SVG in Inkscape.
- Open File › Export (Shift+Ctrl+E).
- Choose Page or Drawing, set the DPI or the width in pixels, pick PNG as the format, and click Export.
Inkscape keeps transparency by default. To get a white background, set a page background colour in Document Properties first.
Method 3: Canva
Upload the SVG in the Uploads tab, add it to a design sized the way you need, and download as PNG. A transparent background is part of Canva’s paid plans; on the free plan the PNG gets the design’s background colour.
Method 4: the app that made the SVG
If the SVG came from Illustrator, Affinity Designer or Figma, export from there: Illustrator’s File › Export › Export As › PNG, Affinity’s File › Export, or Figma’s Export panel. They give the same quality; they’re just slower if you only need a quick conversion.
How do I convert SVG to PNG without losing quality?
Quality is lost only when the PNG has too few pixels for where it’s shown. An SVG has no fixed resolution, so choose the pixel size when you convert: about 2,000 px wide for screens, or the print width in inches × 300 for print. In Vectacle’s SVG to PNG converter pick 4×, an exact width, or a print size with DPI; the PNG is drawn fresh at that size, so edges stay sharp.
How do I convert SVG to PNG at a specific size?
- Exact pixels: choose Width in px and type the width; the height follows the SVG’s proportions.
- Print size: choose Print size, type the width in inches and pick 150, 300 or 600 DPI. The DPI is saved in the PNG, so print shops see the intended size.
- Relative: 1×, 2× or 4× the SVG’s own size, handy for icons and retina screens.
How do I keep a transparent background?
Save as PNG (JPG can’t be transparent) and don’t add a background colour. Empty areas of the SVG stay transparent. If you need a solid background, choose White or any colour instead.
How do I save an SVG as PNG on Windows or Mac?
Most computers have no simple built-in “save SVG as PNG” option. The easiest way on Windows, Mac and Chromebook alike is a browser-based converter (Method 1), which works the same everywhere. Inkscape (Method 2) works offline on Windows, macOS and Linux.
Picking the right size
| Use | Size to aim for |
|---|---|
| Etsy listing image | About 2,000–3,000 px on the long side |
| Website or social post | 1,080–2,000 px wide |
| Print width in inches × 300 (for example 8 in × 300 = 2,400 px) | |
| Print then Cut stickers | The sticker size in inches at 300 DPI, transparent background |
Troubleshooting
- Text looks different: SVG text uses fonts by name. If the font isn’t installed where you convert, a similar one is used. Convert text to outlines before saving the SVG.
- Parts are missing: some SVGs link to outside images that aren’t included in the file. Embed images in the design app before exporting the SVG.
- Edges look jagged: the PNG is too small for where it’s shown. Export it larger.
Going the other way? Vectacle turns PNGs into SVGs too.
Need a PDF for a print shop instead? SVG to PDF makes a true vector PDF at the artwork size, A4, Letter or a custom page.
Questions
Will converting SVG to PNG lose quality?
Only if the PNG is too small. An SVG can be drawn at any size, so pick enough pixels for where the PNG will be used: about 2,000 px for screens, or the print size times 300 DPI for print.
How do I keep the background transparent?
Save as PNG (JPG can’t be transparent) and don’t add a background colour. In Vectacle’s SVG to PNG tool, Transparent is the default.
Can I convert several SVG files to PNG at once?
Yes. Drop several SVGs into the converter; the same size and background apply to all, and you can download them together as a ZIP.
What resolution do I need for printing?
Multiply the print size in inches by 300. A 4 × 6 inch print needs 1,200 × 1,800 pixels. Vectacle’s Print size option does this for you and saves the DPI in the file.
